As Yorkshire and the Humber is named the ninth most prosperous region in the UK due to surging house prices, The Northern Homebuilding & Renovating Show will be making its comeback at HIC (Harrogate International Centre) from 6-8 November 2015. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, the show’s media partner and Britain’s best-selling self-build publication, the event will inspire self-builders and renovators from Harrogate and nearby areas through new services and products, free seminars and masterclasses, and individual consultations with the country’s leading property experts.

The three-day exhibition will be a key fixture for those visitors aiming to start a new self-build, home improvement or renovation project or progress with one which is already on its way. This year’s Harrogate show is designed to cover popular areas including heating; doors & windows; bathrooms; kitchens; flooring; lighting and much more.

Over 250 local and national specialist companies will allow visitors to discover and compare the latest offers available on the market for any type of property project they have in mind. They will also be able to consult with experts on their stands for more in-depth knowledge and attend the Masterclass Theatre, where key topics will be extensively covered.

For those at the start of their project who need to tackle the process of applying and obtaining planning permission, an appointment at The Planning Clinic will help putting their mind at ease as all the common mistakes will be explained thoroughly by Sally Tag and her team of specialists.

If self-builders already have an idea on paper and would like to run it past property experts with years of practice in this field, they can bring their plans along for an honest and impartial opinion at The Advice Centre.

Taking on board a building project of any scale can be an unsettling prospect, but this can all be turned into a pleasant experience with the correct guidance. Visitors will be able to benefit from the Ask an Architect area, where chartered specialists from RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) will offer free one-on-one appointments covering topics including building regulations and structural engineer calculations for loft conversions, extensions, internal alterations, new builds and more.

Dedicated home improvers and self-builders will have the chance to listen to the Homebuilding & Renovating magazine’s experts delivering essential tips and advice in the Seminar Theatre. For more specific questions, attendees can book an individual 15-minute consultation at the Ask the Experts section with: Michael Holmes (editor-in-chief of Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine); Jason Orme (editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine); David Snell (Homebuilding & Renovating magazine’s self-build and plot finding expert); Tim Pullen (expert in sustainable building and energy efficiency in the home) and Bob Branscome (chartered surveyor and builder).

To ensure that visitors take advantage of all the features on offer to them at the show, they will be provided with an event planner to create a personalised map and plan their journey smoothly. This will be available a week before the event on the show’s website.

Combining traditional materials with contemporary ones can add a distinctive touch to any home. If visitors would like to incorporate oak into their plans, they can stop by the Oakwrights Design Consultation Service, where the company’s architectural designers will advise on the best practices to blend together traditional skills with innovative technology.

When self-building is an option, experienced members from the Potton Design Lounge will help design, create and deliver a tailored plan and layout, taking into account building regulations and individuals’ desires.

Standard tickets are £8 in advance or £12 on the door (children under 16 go free). For further information visit www.homebuildingshow.co.uk/harrogate or call the ticket hotline on 0844 8740 484 (calls cost 6p per minute plus network extras).
